ABOUT ME

After receiving a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Cincinnati, I taught as an Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky. While there I completed my training at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland (GIC) eventually becoming a member of the Board of Directors and faculty, teaching in The Center for Intimate Systems. In time, The Center for Intimate Systems eventually separated from GIC and became the Gestalt International Study Center (GISC) in Wellfleet, MA. I have served on the Board of Directors at GISC for many years and am the Chair of the Cape Cod Training Program, as well as the Organizational Development (OD) Certificate Program.

As a licensed psychologist, I am a member of the Maine Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association. I am also a member of the Association for the Advancement of Gestalt Therapy (AAGT), of the Gestalt Practitioner in Organizations (GPO), the European Association of Gestalt Therapy (EAGT), and the International Association for Gestalt in Organizations (INTAGIO). I am a partner in Melnick and Kramer; Organizational Consultants, as well as Convergence, a health care consultancy.

I have spent my entire career between the worlds of organizational consulting, coaching, teaching, training, writing, psychotherapy and supervision.

  • As an organizational consultant and coach, I have worked with a broad range of companies including Fortune 500 organizations, hospitals, medical practices and residency programs, state and foreign governments, as well as a wide range of small businesses including law, accounting, and engineering firms.
  • As a writer, I am the founding editor of Gestalt Review, an international, peer reviewed journal based on a contemporary Gestalt approach. Among my 100 professional publications are: Melnick and E.C. Nevis (Eds), Mending the World: Social Healing Interventions by Gestalt Practitioners Worldwide, and The US FACTOR, a combination workbook and DVD series for creating marital intimacy. I am currently completing with Sonia Nevis, Ph.D., How Change Happens: The Cape Cod Model, and co-editing Towards a Research Tradition in Gestalt Therapy with Jan Roubal, Phil Brownell, Gianni Francesetti, and Jelena Zeleskov Djoric.
  • As a teacher and trainer I travel regularly to a number of universities and institutes throughout the US and Europe. (See Teaching and Training page.)
  • As a psychotherapist and supervisor I maintain a regular psychotherapy practice with an emphasis on individuals, couples, and groups, and run ongoing supervision groups, many for a number of years.
